Kenny was visibly somewhat driven during his AEW title run. Not so much in the ring but at least he was invested as a character and talent in presenting himself on-screen.
I think he felt like he had genuine skin in the brand insofar as his legacy, too. Now he simply doesn't give a fuck, his money's made, even if he goes down as a flop in AEW, his Japanese run is legit legendary.
I wouldn't care either, honestly. Tony's basically the culmination of Kenny's hard grinding career. He put in the effort and was rewarded with a truly historic paypig.

I was legit fantasybooking him debuting against Cena, winning the Rumble, dethrowning Reigns at Mania and then getting viciously destroyed by a deranged Cody Rhodes the RAW after. Resulting in a two to three year chase of a mind broken Cody trying everything under the sun "to finish the story."
Omega retires shortly after eventually losing to Cody.
WWE could pride themselves with having had the most complete career path ever witnessed in pro wrestling ending at a high note, winning their title.
I honestly don't understand why this is so difficult to enact...

New Japan tricked people into thinking Kenny Omega was cool because of how they shoot their cameras and how they produce talent. Even when Kenny forced his was into getting them to do cringe shit, like his understale VTR...they would have never, NEVER allowed him to come out as sans and do a comedy match for a main event. He always forced his cringe shit in e.g. you're a Bullet Club hitman, a cleaner, "lol, okay I'll come to the ring with a broom!", but they still had a framework for him. In AEW, he's unleashed to be his pure cringe self.

He's not good anywhere. The match in Japan was not good at all. It was just a weapons match. The kind wrestlers use to disguise the fact that they can not go. Kenny's cooked. He's done. He could never have another match of the caliber he had with Okada, Naito, or Ibushi.

Honestly I think seeing his boss side with Punk on every little issue and refusing to do anything about a little snake in the ranks killed his morale. He gave a fuck in the first 2 years at AEW because he was building it and the boss respected him. As soon as the Exfed toys started coming in, AEW changed to something worse - it went from being Pepsi to WWEs Coke to be being Diet Coke in the space of 6 months. It's no surprise he's lacking motivation.

Not even close, the whole booking of the match was fucking awful considering the story NJPW had built up. It was a good move trade but completely lacked the narrative of the first.

Don’t be disingenuous, he spent the first few months doing it exactly how they wanted him to. The problem was that no one in Japan knew what the fuck a “cleaner” was outside of literally being a janitor. It wasn’t getting over with the crowd so he decided to lean into the way the crowd perceived the gimmick
