Sometimes I watch ECW Hardcore TV and just look at the crowd and imagine how much fun it must have been to be there. Everyone's drunk and smoking and so into the show.

I dunno if the crowd is mic'd differently or what but I've been watching a lot of 80s NWA/WCW stuff and they are just completely invested into everything that happens and are rowdy and come completely unglued for the big spots and finishes. Modern WWE crowds feel comatose by comparison. I hate to sound like a BOOMER here but I do think the proliferation of phones have a lot to do with it. They provide an easy distraction + people are too worried about getting pics/video instead of engaging with the show.

I went to a WWE house show a few weeks ago and the crowd was much louder than it's made to sound on TV. The pops were deafening and it was a freaking house show. You can't go by what you're hearing over the speakers since they probably do mic things differently now.
