Tony has known for months that WBD is unlikely to renew AEW's deal. CW was the only big money player interested in doing business with AEW. Billy Corgan offered CW a better deal for NWA programming and they took it. This is mostly why Tony melted down after losing to NXT.

There's no compelling reason for WBD to keep AEW around desu. Reruns outdraw it and shit like old Big Bang Theory episodes don't cause PR problems like Tony does. Plus it has terrible ad rates because wrestling always does. On top of that it's been getting colder and colder. This is the longest no milly streak in its history. If WBD is finished with AEW then why did they recently ask them for a Saturday show? They went from just one show with Dynamite, to 3 shows after adding Rampage and Collision. And it's not like the ratings were way better before launching Collision. Go back and look at the Dynamite ratings before Collision was added. They were averaging about a 0.28 in the 18-49 demo and 870k total viewers per week in April and May. Aside from the Tuesday show, they have been hitting the same numbers lately.

WCW getting booted off Turner networks was more about the change in leadership after the AOL deal. The AOL guys took over and they didn't like the image of wrestling on their networks and wanted to dump them. Even though they were losing to WWE near the end, the ratings were still decent compared to most other cable programs. They weren't even willing to give WCW a timeslot if the company went private and took all the wrestler contracts off of AOL Time Warners books.

In what way would it be a perfect spot for them? The CW is a broadcast network which means they have stricter rules regarding content. No more blood and even less cursing. The CW has barely any money but they have reach.

Corgan's NWA deal, while not officially confirmed is probably not good ie
1) Corgan is paying for airtime
2) it's a terrible timeslot
3) its not a 52 week committment
4) its a split on ad revenue (which will be terrible)

The fact that it's not being reported by Variety or Hollywood Reporter means its a bad deal and the trade-off is the exposure/reach of being on the CW.

If any of this is true, the way Corgan hurts AEW is not that he stole a great deal away from AEW but that he settles for a lowball deal and that hurts AEW's ability to play hardball/have leverage

That's my guess for his deal. I think AEW had something similar in 2019 until they proved themselves and then landed the $43 million per year for Dynamite extension that began in 2020. Giving the CW the show for free in exchange for a split in ad revenue is better than Corgan paying for the airtime himself (I don't think he has the money to do that anyways). I'm just wondering what the timeslot is going to be? If its primetime, then I can imagine the CW wants to avoid competing with other wrestling shows, so Thursday is the best bet. My local CW channel has local news from 5-7pm and again at 10-11pm on weekdays. Then they show TV reruns between 7-8pm and at 11pm. On weekends they have LIV golf and occasionally a college football game during the day. It will be interesting to see where they put the NWA shows.

Most of the giant media companies took on lots of debt to build up streaming, so their current "free cash flow" isn't great, but they still have way more assets under their control than a small player like Nexstar. Their strategy seems to be spend a little, but make sure it's profitable. So they won't be putting a lot of money into wrestling.

Because all the stories I find when googling AEW Collison TV deal is that they are getting paid in addition to their old deal for Dynamite and Rampage (I've seen it mentioned to be $25 million more per year for Collision), and that all 3 shows set to expire at the same time at the end of next year.

The lowest proper contract for AEW is 76k, which is the "Indy guy that we want" tier, MJF was on this when the whole MJF is unhappy with his money was going on. I believe a lot of the ex main WWE roster guys are on like, 250k which is what MJF was mad about.

Jericho is reported at $4m a year, Edge at $3m a year. Presumably Mox, Omega and the Bucks are around the $3m figure.
Either way, AEW does around $65m in TV revenue and around $100m total for 2022.
$50m a year seems reasonable but $100m wages seems extremely unrealistic.
There's no way Khan is doing 100% wages to turnover ratio. That's effectively bankrupt. It will be closer to 50 or 60%. If we put AEW for 2023 at $120m based off FF and London but struggling attendances hurting, then $60m is a decent figure for them.
They've got a strong chance at profitability in 2024 if the TV deal renews with its expected uplift.

The contract system (at least at one point) was basically 5 tiers. Tier 0 was a bonus + a number of dates and you'll get paid whenever they happen, tier 1 was this deal, then there were a couple of other tiers of money, then tier Jericho. Which was just Jericho at the time.
