Paul is genuinely the culprit for everything bad in wrestling since 2003. He heard people say the Steph shit so started leveraging it like crazy. Vince isn't senile, Paul is just a politicking cunt who sabotaged plans, booked bad shit, forced Roman on the fans, and has now fired any guy with size or charisma because he's an insecure dicklet who pushes bland vanilla midget LE WORKRATE shitters (who don't even have ring talent or psychology just move spam) because in his mind he can chortle and jerk off at how much bigger and more charismatic he was.

2002-2003 was one of the weirdest times in pro wrestling. WWE had no idea what direction to go in post Monday Night Wars/Attitude Era. Rock was going full Hollywood, Austin despite being still massively over was being forced down the card which lead to his walk-out. NWO flopped because it wasn't 1998 anymore and Hall still being a fuck up. Trying to push Bubba Ray Dudley as a main-eventer, etc.

The Reign of Terror has been discussed to death, and it was fucking bad. But the overall product especially on the RAW side doesn't get talked about nearly enough.

Austin had peaked by this point and was caught thinking he was something he no longer was, the number 1 guy. I do agree the Post AE/Ruthless Aggression transition was something else. Since business went down the previous year in 01, they tried throwing everything at the wall to see what would stick, hence some of the weird booking decisions of the time. Smackdown in 02 and 03 was good though, Raw was a complete shit fest due to Paul though

Nah, they definitely knew something was wrong in 2001. They just didn't know what to do. Gaych as top guy wasn't going to cut it and Lesnar despite having a dimes look, wasn't drawing that well on Smackdown. They eventually stopped the bleeding with Cena and Batista though

Of course Austin wasn't at his peak, but he was still massively over and at the time that "What?" shirt was a number 1 seller. I'm not saying he should have been in the title scene 100% of the time, but given their options at that time he was still top 2-3.

Smackdown 02/03 on the other hand was basically the ideal wrasslin show by today's standards. A perfect harmony of prime Vince/Paul E's wildass outta pocket storylines for the horny teenagers and regular 5 star classic workrate matches for the nerds
