They had a dominant heel in power for years and no clear top traditional babyface, WWE went all in to make him look like a star, WWE fan morale was starting to recover and they supported the product, they framed the story as him going out to better himself, prove himself and then to do it for his family, so people got more behind him, the branding was too notch from day one, he is friends with fan favorites in the company, and his matches were exciting compared to other WWE main event stuff, plus they had unique storylines to them. That being said, I still don't get why he was a top level draw from the second he got there, his merch starting selling out instantly.
