In terms of mainstream interest, Hulkamania was the peak. In terms of business, the shitty modern era is the peak. In terms of entertainment, the Attitude Era was better, but it probably peaked in 1997 or in 2000, rather than the more successful years of 1998/99.

WWF had nobody in 2000. everybody was either in WCW or injured. RVD wasn't even there yet.

The Mick Foley/HHH feud, the Rock vs the Mcmahon/Hemsley faction, The Dudley's and T&A feud. The Angle/HHH/Stephanie love try angle. There was lots of good in 2000. Also of those names you mentioned, only Austin and Taker were actually important, Rock filled Austin's role as top guy, and Taker was getting stale until he came back as biker taker. You 're looking back at Russo's shit crash tv booking with rose tinted glasses, it was all more cohesive in 2000.

what was cringe about it? whatever cringe moments you're thinking probably happened in a different era. for example the McMahon Kiss My Ass Club. that was after the era ended, it's post-Attitude. that was worse and cringier than anything Russo or Ferrara could have booked

In general they were already showing signs of cooling down in late 2000 even with Austin back, the move to TNN from USA likely didn't help. But they were still good up until WM17, with Austin heel and Rock gone, that was the end.
