Punk is doing the opposite here and leaning into it because it benefits him professionally to do so. Keeps his name in the conversation despite the apparent decision from WWE internally being a hard no on bringing him in. Punk is doing this with the hopes that there will be a good old fashioned Chicago hijacking like the old days but I don't think he understands that those fans aren't going to or watching WWE anymore.
All of that hostile audience element more or less vanished from WWE once AEW was founded and gave them a place to go. And especially since being able to go back on the road full time since the end of covid to full capacity arenas, WWE audiences are very compliant, and on the rare occasions they aren't they just get drowned out by hairdyrer.wav on the TV broadcasts.
