I listened to an interview to Rocky Romero on a NJPW fan podcast, and he said that Tony usually rings him on a Monday wanting NJPW wrestlers for that Wednesday. Tony does plan in advance (it also explains why he did an Inoki tribute show on a date that NJPW already had a show on)
