It was a blood sacrifice to resurrect Vince McMahon after he was shoot blown up. Isn't it odd how he came back to life with no explanation right after Benoit "killed" his family and they never explained why? Linda used her connections to the Washington DC spirit cooking elite to learn how to perform the ritual, and Chris was chosen due to him being months away from a heart attack anyways. They needed a pure child's spirit as well so they pulled the murder suicide gimmick.
