Malenko and Benoit would do that dumbass "phony chain wrestling and then stand up and square off so the fat smarks clap" spot that every indie shitter loves. Sabu and RVD started incorporating it, but instead of phony chain wrestling, they do a bunch of flips and flip out counters or missed moves instead. Super Crazy, Little Guido, and Tajiri spent most of 99-00 having the same type of flipz N' movez matches indie shitters have now.
The difference now is that instead of just being manlets like most of those guys, wrestlers today are twinks as well who could seemlessly slide into the role of Starbucks barista. And more importantly, back then all those guys understood they were popping a niche audience so when they would get to the WWF or WCW they would drop that shit entirely, or massively tone it down and actually work, because Vince and Bischoff aren't marks who sit in the back jerking off to star and cagematch ratings, and would just fire you.
Now though dipshits like the Bucks just do the same indyriffic shit in a company that's supposed to be mainstream and because the owner of the company is a turbo smark with a billion dollars no one tells them that's also why they draw like an indie company
