Westerners stopped watching New Japan in 2016 when AJ Styles left. Meltzer tried to bring them back in by using his star ratings to create a new western star that would renew interest in New Japan. First he tried with Ricochet and Ospreay but that didn't work so he tried again with Omega which did work.
Ultimately that's his legacy, a mediocre wrestler who meltzer overrated because he was in the right place at the right time. When Omega came to America and people saw him on tv weekly it quickly became apparent he wasn't as good as advertised

No one will care about jr. heavyweight Kenny and no one will care about Kenny after he won the IWGP heavyweight championship, but if you try to act like those two years weren't based as fuck you're just cucking yourself out of some of the best matches of the 2010s in order to avoid agreeing with Meltzer about something

The most overrated guy in the most overrated period of wrestling history. Only three new japan matches in that decade are worth rewatching: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Katsuyori Shibata, AJ Styles vs Minoru Suzuki and Kazuchika Okada vs Katsuyori Shibata.
Everything else is excessively long choreographed slop with no emotion

Sadly for me it will be becoming most known as a wrestler during a time when he was clearly on the downward spiral, majority of people only know him from being pushed on AEW with the bucks nearby, and the bucks are ratings cancer I just cannot bring myself to watch anything involving them, I liked Don Callis with Kenny but when the bucks arrive I tune out.
