>>12115211there's more options for comedians these days. most people just end up writing for shows (doing head writer stints etc) vs getting their own. true stand-up fell off a bit as far as it's rockstar status goes for various reasons. also at the time there was a race for cartoon content just like there is a race for content in general now. it wasn't just stand-up comedians who had shows, it was anyone who was barely popular. cartoon = toy line = $$$
