To that time Vince had the golden opportunity to create the story of WWF vs WCW within his own company, potentially one of the hottest and compelling things in the history of professional wrestling but was so prideful that he completely squandered it? Look at this - by late 2001, it was basically WWF vs WWF. Vince couldn't bring himself to book any of the WCW/ECW guys strong enough to oppose his own stars; he had to bury them all so WCW fans didn't want to watch it and WWF fans thought the WCW guys were inferior.
He could have made the feud a long, slow burn with each faction trading ascendancy, as he waited for the contracts of Hogan, Nash, Hall, Steiner and Goldberg to become available so he could reinvigorate and add heat to it.
It's kind of incredible how badly they miffed it. Could have made money and piqued interest for years from this; moreover, it would have made the television interesting and given it legs beyond the departures of Rock and Austin, saving us from years of Triple H dominating RAW.
