People are fooling themselves if they think pro wrestling has a spot next to other live sports as the future of TV programming. The Smackdown deal has already shown that it can't/won't get those kinds of ratings. What else is left to try?

Every TV show in existence has declined every year since 2000 because streaming happened you fucking idiot. WWE and AEW rank among the top shows every night and they have extremely loyal built in audiences which is why TV companies are paying hundreds of millions a year for them.

Lucha Underground was onto something, but the company was so badly ran the show imploded before it had a chance to grow. I think that's the formula that might work though. Shorter program, more polished production and as much violence crammed into it as you can get away with.

Wrestling was declining while cable was growing for years and years. Then Raw was declining faster than cable cutting. Then AEW declined faster than cable cutting.

The other part of this is that there are less unique viewers of wrestling shows than ever before…meaning that it’s the same lonely, fat fucks watching every show.

wwe has tons of really young really talented wrestlers down in nxt, they've been future proofing for a while. the people on the main roster are shoot less interesting than the people down in nxt
