if you must know: they're worn because proper wrestling boots esp. for indy wrestlers are expensive, they cost 100s of £/$ to be made from a specialised place. A lot are bought 2nd hand, & generally don't have much to them, just standard colours.
Kickpads are quite cheap, have a lot of customization and can be worn over wrestling shoes & the like.
