Before Cody left the show was counter culture to what WWE was doing . Yes it had shit video game psychology but it felt more Japanese / Lucha oriented. It now feels like WWE lite with all the god awful production (hiring Kevin dunns assistant) and skits. I agree. While I overall still enjoy AEW I really dislike how the world title has been handled since MJF turned face and I have REALLY began to hate the MJF/Kingdom comedy vignettes. Their mainevent scene used to be top tier but now their world champion is basically a clown.

I'll forgive them though if someone ends up absolutely destroying MJF and taking the belt with the storyline being that he lost his edge with all the comedy stuff.

It's pretty obvious Cody was the one behind the "sports based presentation" stuff. As soon as he left stuff like weigh ins and rankings went away. They still do those UFC countdown style segments sometimes though which I think are very good.

Everything went to shit once he left. The other EVPs just seem like they are taking the money mark for everything they could. Cody was always the one talking about the future and who had an actual vision of what it meant to be wrestling that wasn't just Sam's Club WWE.
I hate all those fucking "miss me yet?" threads because I do, and I feel like shit for booing him at a show. I want Cody back. I want Cody booking. I will put up with the ridiculous entrances, the gender reveals, and the other bullshit he was doing near the end if we can get the old AEW back.

It all revolves around Tony now. Back when AEW first started it was basically advertised as for the boys by the boys. Cody was obviously hugely involved, The Bucks were supposedly booking the tag division, Omega was supposedly booking the women. But slowly over time Tony Khan started coming out and making it very clear that it was his company and everything ran through him.

I don't even think he's terrible. But I do think its impossible for one guy to adequately book 4 separate shows. He should focus on Dynamite/Rampage and let someone else do ROH and Collision. I really enjoyed those few months where there were some clear lines drawn and Collision actually felt significantly different from Dynamite.

He is though. He doesn't have a creative mind. he thinks remembering callbacks from matches 40 years ago in another promotion is creative. Honestly that would be fine, it would be ok for him to want shit like that included occasionally and make the demand/suggestion. He was a heel who refused to acknowledged that he was a heel and genuinely did not understand why people didn't like him. WWE toned him way down. If you can't see the booking change that occured in May 2022 then you're blind to it. Which is fine I guess, but everything started to be hotshotted with very little cohesiveness. In 2019-early 2022 everything seemed to have a purpose, and sometimes they'd turn around shit angles in to good angles. Nowadays it all seems nonsensical and booked to pop a rating. It doesn't reward the long term fan so they've started dipping in and out. I barely catch it live anymore because I know that eye on detail just isn't there.

2023 AEW is New Coke. An absolute disaster on release that no one wants and was rejected by the public so hard that if Coca-Cola didn't flip a 180 in months they would have gone out of business.
