Cena employs the "tough love" variant of trying to get guys over these days, like what Austin does when he comes back every now and again. They aren't looking to bury anyone but they come for the throat in an effort to fire you up and get you to come back with something better. It's how they're trying to build superstars because they've already tried the "put over your weak banter and gimmick" shit and it's created no real stars it seems like. They want to find someone who can rip their throats out and no one is capable of it. It's actually more authentic than when Cena tries to do the "act scared of Bray Wyatt" shit and whatever, and if they ever do find someone with the wit to turn it back on him they might stumble into an actual superstar who can actually talk
