This is fucking sad. Just make it non-title, hotshotting a title match with the guy who's done literally nothing all year except gyrates his hips at people isn't gonna pop a rating OR elevate him. This really does feel like Tony panicking and his only solution is to pander to 20 marks on twitter pretending Garcia is worth something at this point.

It makes no sense, Tony just forgot he was pushing Garcia at one point and is giving him a heatless title match to make up for forgetting him. People will watch a TV show if they think it's funny/amusing or of they're invested in the stakes, this is why the NFL is the biggest commodity in American media, the small number of regular season games heightens the stakes of every game. Booking a world title match where the entire audience knows what the result will be doesn't do anything but cheapen the title and champion.

My theory is that a lot of wrestling fans were clamoring for a WWE alternative for so long they were willing to embrace AEW before it was proven to be a quality alternative. Now it seems pretty obvious that AEW was never intended to be an alternative to WWE, it simply exists so Tony can larp as Vince. The problem with WWE for years and years was the show was micromanaged by an out of touch rich guy and was booked to appease him instead of a wider audience, AEW was thought of as an alternative to that but its the exact same thing.

This explanation is better if you also take into account that most fantasy bookers around the early 2000s were copying WWE booking note for note, especially Attitude Era stuff, only with the writers as the big boss Vince. Everything Tony books makes sense in the context of someone writing up 20 paragraphs a day about their fantasy org. But it doesn't translate into TV because 90% of the writing is explaining the banger of a match.

Tony can't do anything without referencing or alluding to WWE in some way because that is all he knows. At the same time he doesn't know how to book or tell stories for TV because he never has.
