Cody is worse on the mic for starters.
IMO he's less enjoyable to watch in the ring but this is obviously an opinion
He's way more entertaining as a character in general and can carry feuds way better. Cody is way too vanilla and boring for my tastes.

Cody is the squeaky clean babyface while Knight is the tough guy. Both would work, but Cody's whole deal is wanting to get the title his father never did which is a draw for people.
