>>12172716This. I hate this console war- smark revisionism that Cody in AEW was good. It wasn't. It wasn't going over with the crowds and was terrible to look at his unhinged attempts to go over like a WWE face with gender reveals and feuds with shitters like as heel Guevarra, a mexican jumping bean heel half his size that looked like Cody could hug him to death.
While Cody could pull a good "rally the troops" promo and a good spectacle match once in a blue moon it wasn't getting over. It shouldn't be a high intellectual concept to grasp that this isn't the same as saying the rest of AEW was the bees knees and perfect in every single way during Cody being there but it was a whole different show that the majority of audience came for, they weren't there to see Cody and the dollar store presentation of the American Nightmare there were there for the gritty HC matches and flippies which Cody wasn't part of.
That is the reason the term "Codyverse" was coined, it was so noticeable that everything he did and who he did it with were in a separate show within the show. Same happened with the Bucks later but nobody seemed to take note of the "Bucksverse" when it was happening around the "best out of 7 matches". Jericho basically had his own "Jeriverse" for years too but it had a steady change of guest characters so it's not so obvious.
