>>12192876Kenny, when building a serious singles match, has a great grasp of psychology and storytelling. There's always a story being told in the ring in his matches that is easy enough to follow.
He's athletic and though he's lost a half a step, his sheer effort really lifts him above most other workers. Kenny doesn't skimp on dangerous bumps and he's willing to put his body on the line for wrestling which I've always respected about guys, from Misawa on down.
You can tell when a guy really cares about being a good pro wrestler and Kenny's concern for being decent comes across in his singles performances.
How he can be, simultaneously, such a spotmonkey PWG shitter and a mark for multi-man nonsense is beyond me and when he goes there, he often strays into weirdly autistic territory. Sometimes, his goofy stuff is good (see: his Yano matches) but most of the time it's just fucking goofy.
Beyond that, like others have said -- great moveset, performs his spots very well. Can finish a match several different ways, and protects the fuck out of his finisher. He can play the scrappy underdog punching from underneath like he did against Okada in NJPW, or he can play the dominant figure like he did against Ospreay in those matches.
Also, a lot of Kenny's appeal comes from the fact that he is absolutely a fucking geek. Let's face it, most wrestling fans are fucking nerds these days, and they see Kenny as one of their own which allows him to connect with his audience. He's a great worker, one of the best active today.
