WBD insider here, lots of the higher ups saw that NXT got $35 million for NXT so they don't want to pay much more than that for AEW TV seeing how they do the same/worse ratings. Also there are no plans to move AEW ppvs to Max because they get a large chunk of the PPV sales

I want to make a clarification. There are no plans to stream new/live PPV's on Max. The past PPVs + AEW TV will be added to Max in Q2 2024. PPV's will be added to Max 60 days after they air live.

This is the bit that makes the most sense as to why the PPV's weren't on Max despite the partnership with Bleacher Report. Tony literally fucked his leverage with them.

If they release all these names, who fills up the shows? Do you have your top stars out there talking for 30 minutes to kill time? You need a hierarchy that includes jobbers, lower carders to fill time. There's some bad/boring talents who should go for sure, but some of these lists would leave zero depth.

You go the "local talent" route. Have local indies send people when you are in their area to job. I think you are correct that some of these lists need a little more ballast in the lower card and as regular jobbers, but you don't need jobbers on contract.

Jobbers are good and a lower card is important, but jobbers either need to be good/memorable at jobbing, or have potential to move up (preferably both). Looking at AEW's roster, so many people there are literally whos who don't even have jobber charisma.

Buying ROH for the library was great. Keeping all the talent and actually having the belts around wasting TV time is fucking insane.
