His ECW debut was against Benoit and it was amazing. Joey Styles keeps putting him over as a kid who's gonna make it to the top of the biz, which is bittersweet in hindsight. I feel like Al could have been much bigger, but I guess water finds its own level.

It doesn't even make sense if you accept "making the most money" as the standard for match quality. You can't judge that before the match as happened or from that match alone, you judge it on the match's impact going forward. You could sell a bunch of tickets and make make a bunch of money promoting a huge match but if it's a stinker and nobody watches your show ever again, it has failed. If money is the key factor then the best match is the one which people watched and thought "this is great, I'll spend money to see more of this".

Al Snow was a solid hand who could wrestle a broom and make it decent but he never had the charisma or look of a star. If he came around in 1983 he might very had a chance at being an arn Anderson type of upper midcarder but unfortunately al just never had it.
