I loved everything about the act. The Muta entrance gear, the sycophant he abused, the mist, the promos in Japanese. He had a stiff as hell match with Sheamus on a random Smackdown, but the gimmick was doomed to fail with modern fans.

The problem was that everyone already knew him as Albert. You can't take a guy that's as visually unique as Matt Bloom and just declare him to be a Nip one day.

No of course not. You're entirely right. The problem though wasn't that he was Albert. The problem was WWE refusing to acknowledge the fact that he was. You had Prince Albert, Albert, A-Train, Giant Bernard. The guy had gone through a whole ton of name and gimmick changes before and no one ever batted an eye at a single one of them because no one was ever trying to make them think he was someone else. There was no reason Tensai had to be played off as some new wrestler when it would've been even more effective if they had just gotten into what actually happened. A-Train got fired, went to Japan, became even more based and is finally back in WWE. Problem solved. No one should feel smart chanting Albert anymore and we can carry on with it because it doesn't matter if they do

I think eventually they did but they had already abandoned whatever plans they had with him and he was quickly dropping down the card

His A-Train run felt like it was pushing on a main event spot and probably had the most credible run. Tensai had clean wins over Punk and Cena which on paper is bigger but that's where that started and ended. I'd probably go with A-Train
