Nah. I hate AEW, but tournaments emphasize a sports oriented product. Despite AEW doing everything else under the sun to shit on that presentation.

I liked them when I was younger but yeah, it does seem a little boring and drawn out. Same day tournaments are a little more interesting.

they can be good if you use them as your primary method of storytelling like in japan where they have no weekly soap opera and have to get everyone on the card for 20 house shows in a row in order to make money
whenever you see it on american tv it's just like a quick way to hotshot a belt on someone, no one ever does it right
anyone who watched dragon ball or yu yu hakusho on cartoon network as a kid understands how to book a tournament better than tony khan

It kind of makes sense for Japan because they go to a lot of smaller places that won't draw great and don't want to give away big matches. But in something like the G-1, they can get away with giving away something better than usual. I think it also works as a way to get some extra subs for various VOD services. That's not the case in the US though as the US is so much bigger and these will be taking place on TV.

I'm not a huge fan of them as you have to give away matches without time to build stories for them.
