He's a guy who was cursed with a great brain for the details of pro wrestling and a willingness to learn from the past, yet the most fragile ego and an unathletic body that breaks into pieces from a light breeze. Just could never get out of his own way. A remarkable talent who was always destined to hit a very high peak in his career and then come crashing down miserably due to some random petty grievance. Avoiding drugs and alcohol his whole life was a very sound decision for someone with his personality. I'm a fan of his work, but his career is always going to be discussed in terms of the what-ifs whose failure to come to fruition are mostly his own fault.

I know this is fan-booking headcanon but if he is the devil and they do something like this it would be ultimate kino. Punk is a huge DKR fan so there is a degree of plausibility that this could happen. He see himself as a "hated face", vigilante type which differs from a stone cold or moxley type anti heel. Kind of like an anti face

Wrestling is its most fun when it’s a bunch of headcases on top. Punk’s problem is that he works the boys into a shoot better than he works the crowd. It’s great for some really fun high points if you’re a smark but otherwise the in-between periods don’t do much for you as a fan. His matches range from fun to bad, his promos are consistently good to read good. He’s like if Piper had been a total bipolar dweeb. All that’s to say he’s way more entertaining than any of the other shitters in the major feds now.

The thing was that Phil was legit decent in the ring when because he always had great psychology. He would rarely do flashy stuff unless he needed to build up for an upcoming match which is what the great ones always did which is why I think he could still go in a more sterile environment like the WWE who won't pressure him to do a bunch of chaotic spot fests to pander to their fanbase
