Stimulates basic instincts in dramatic fashion e.g. (sex) men feuding over attractive women, (survival) the championship is life and losers face metaphorical death; the employee literally feuding with his boss. Dials in on what is popular in culture at present and incorporates it seamlessly within the professional wrestling program e.g. nu-metal, crash tv, vulgarity.

No doubt. Russo's was the first to see wrestling as a television show and look into what made other shows successful. I don't think we'd have a Bloodline without Russo laying the foundation.

Absolutely.

People can shit on Russo all they want and he was by no means perfect. But at the end of the day he's the most successful wrestling writer ever.
The numbers speak for themselves; WWF ratings went up, WCW ratings went up and TNA ratings went up. As soon as Russo left or was politicked out ratings went down. He wanin touch with water casuals want to see.
One thing I do think is that he did need a filter. Russo shouldn't think anything less of himself for having McMahon, Bischoff or Corny/Dutch editing his ideas, the greatest creative minds need people like that.

But yeah Russo was asking his 12 year old son what was cool when writing for WWF. Literally the best thing you can do to be edgy is ask kids what's popular.

Russo is the McDonalds of wrestling. Yeah, his style draws and appeals to the common denominator but it lacks any depth. I liked wrestling during the ruthless aggression era and early PG era because the storylines were just better to me, I didn't give a shit about the financials or ratings of some other person.
