Unironically the booking of the 2020 Rumble. Vince always favored Stephanie anyway, but after the 2020 Rumble and related incidents it was plain as day that Vince, from a business standpoint, disowned Shane.

It was the 2022 rumble, but yeah, that was the final straw for Vince. He was quoted as saying that you'd never see Shane in a WWE ring again.

Even when Vince was in charge, HHH was usually heavily involved with the booking of the Royal Rumble matches. With HHH out with his heart problem, somehow Shane stepped in, and booked one of the worst rumbles ever. Lots of talent were unhappy with his ideas, which included booking himself to go toe-to-toe with Lesnar, and for him and Randy Orton to swap numbers when it was too late to swap the music. Randy literally laughed at Shane, point blank refusing to walk out to Shane's music.

A lot of wrestlers called it way before the Royal Rumble. They said the only reason marks and wrestlers had a good opinion of Shane was because he never had any booking power.

Shane might have been worse, but not going with the true patrilineal rule of WWE was part of why our timeline broke. 9/11 wasn't long after Stephanie started to gain real power in WWE. Think about it. We've been condemned to a timeline of corporate consolidation and girlboss bullshit all because one of the primary bellwethers of culture, pro-wrestling, ended its male succession line.

Vince, of course, hating wrestling and being embarrassed of his carnie roots, capitulated instantly. Vince seems very easy to manipulate if you play into his insecurities, and his main insecurity is that he wants to belong to the billionaire boy's club even though they will always look down on him regardless of how much he's worth, due to his origins.
