The Devil is Avery Good/Dasher Hatfield.

He's the last major indie guy NOT grabbed up by AEW. Has ties to Orange Cassidy, Claudio, Wheeler, and Kingston.Has legit heat with the Elite (allegedly, lost a chance to get in with ROH during the late 10s boom because the Bucks/Omega/Page shit talked him to management at ROH calling him a joke wrestler) so you can cut and paste some of the Punk/Elite drama onto him in terms of the Elite running whisper campaigns against him.

But most of all, he actually fits the profile of the Devil. Dasher/Avery was one an angel, a good guy who fell from grace due to his pride and arrogance leading him to the dark side. He proverbially fell and chose to rule in hell (Chikara) rather than serve in heaven (IE beg Tony for work like Orange Cassidy did) or kneel before his inferiors who hate him (the Elite).

It's pretty apparent that there is no possible outcome for this that can be good and draw money. It's just filler bullshit because the whole reign was set up to be centered around Punk then Wardlow beating MJF and neither is a viable option anymore so they threw in a bunch of shit and screwed Darby who is the only person who could have won and had it mean anything and give the company its own identity but they booked him as an afterthought and Sting's little buddy.

In terms of the story, only MJF, Cole and Punk make sense. MJF makes the most sense and it's probably him, unless the twitter shit makes Tony change his plans. The actions of the devil are what mjf would do and it's just a schizo mjf angle.
However, that's a stupid magic bullshit angle and all of it is trash, but that's the least retarded trash.
In a company held together by announcing that they signed more guys, it is automatically disappointing when a mystery guy is not a new guy. Tony booked himself into that problem.
The entire devil gimmick is forced and never made sense anyway. Adding a spooky nickname to mjf for no reason as part of the hype for the Firm, a faction he was never even in and never dealt with, briefly turned face to feud with and never paid it off. Wowee.
The whole thing is a retarded mess.

True, but history-wise he is the one who makes the most sense and let's face it he's actually a better wrestler with more natural charisma and improved on the mic and would be something different as champ. If they stopped having every match with him devolving to being based around him just taking big bumps and pit some thought into then they have something for 6 months to a year until some monster heel beats him

Either of these is fine if they get a big push afterwards. The thing with Adam Cole is he doesn't look like a main eventer at all and he shouldn't be a badass heel again but his recent face run got him over with the masses so its fine.
