If NJPW realizes that he is 100% going to either AEW or WWE when his contract is up (which is almost a guarantee since those are the only companies with real money to offer him), it would make sense to proactively negotiate a deal where they can still use him prominently. I imagine Tony would REALLY want to lock Ospreay up for the All In show.

His contract is up in February. It's not like he has a year left. Also doesn't necessarily mean he'd start fulltime in AEW right away. The only reason Tony "needs" him right away is because All In ticket sales start in 2 weeks and Tony wants them to be strong, and having a big local star locked in for the event would help with that. So I could see it being an "on paper" signing until his contract with NJPW is actually up in February.

I think he's probably had an agreement with AEW for months now. Just the way he's talked at the press conferences and things a few other wrestlers have said. After the Kenny match Tony was just gazing at him like a prized race horse. I've never bought in to the possibility of him going to WWE or TNA.

NJPW not wanting Ospreay to sign with WWE makes sense because they'll never be able to use him again. But if he signs with AEW, there's a chance of him going back and doing some shows, and there's always Forbidden Door and WrestleDream. Giving him to AEW early so they can use him in the future makes sense
