Brock was initially pissed off at Cody for blowing his chance against Roman. Then the matches happened and Brock ended up respecting the Codemeister and giving him the rub he needs for his next Mania match.

It was never explained, just hinted at. Cody yelling "make me earn it", Brock begging Cody to stay down at Summer Slam. The "why" was left to interpretation, boiling it down to "hunter vs prey". You want the baby Zebra to escape, no matter why the lion is chasing him.
