I don't think Ospreay would make a difference to either company and I wonder if WWE leaked interest so Tony would pay more to brag about getting Ospreay.
I would have been more interested in him going to WWE. I wouldn't have watched it but it's a lot more intriguing than him becoming another guy doing nothing in aew.
I also think it was a stupid move to announce this now. He isn't coming for 4 months. The hype will be gone by the time he's available. It would have been genius to get him and then let people keep speculating right up until he can debut properly. The intrigue of "where will he go, oh we got him" is now completely dead and the pay off is nothing because whatever he does in nearly half a year away. If they had sat on it and keep feeding Meltzer information about wanting him up until he debuts as a big signing it would have been a much bigger deal.
