Collision went down to 565,000 on fucking week two and consistently hovered around 400-500k range after that. Ratings for the Summer of Punk angle after the pipe bomb were down. Punk wasn't popping ratings on Dynamite either pre-Collision. He's basically just a glorified t-shirt salesman which, okay, but the point of wrestling is to draw gates and ratings and outside of the immediate New Car factor he's not going to do that. He never has.

I fucking hate the Gaylite too so thiis isn't some faggy console war shit. Punk is not, nor has he ever been, a significant draw outside of his run in ROH 20 fucking years ago. He's also old and can't go more than a few matches without getting hurt because his body is so busted. Then there's him being an egotistical prick and locker room cancer.

WWE was doing fine. There was no goddamn reason to bring him back because the negatives far outweigh the positives (he'll sell some t-shirts) that youll get.

Punk's detractors just used Colt as a scapegoat to initiate the attack on Punk. He was a pawn. If they really cared so much about Colt, then why not feature him on tv? The negatives that made his AEW run such a failure aren't applicable to WWE because the big shots backstage at WWE are adults that can check him. Punk was empowered to do whatever he wanted in AEW cause his only other contemporaries in terms of respect and locker room pull were Mox and maybe Jericho.
The worst case scenario is he gets injured right away again in which case WWE is just back to where they were before the PPV started, which was already healthy. The positive is it cripples the competition's ability to respond because there's nothing left in the cupboard for Tony to sign.
