I was at the show with my dad and we put 20 dollars on whether he would come back or not. My dad is vehemently anti-Punk (he's a locker room cancer and an overall asshole) and I thought he would end up coming back. We were both in stunned silence.

When the static hit I was just sitting in shock. Then when his name showed up on the titantron, my first instinct was that it had to be a rib and that somebody else was going to come out dressed like him. It only set in after he came out.

But it worked? There were CM Punk chants during the match but they were booed and drowned out by Randy chants, and then when Randy came out he got a massive pop. The crowd seemed happy and receptive and probably thought "oh well, it's never happening I guess", which is why it was genius. But they definitely would've gotten away with it even if Punk didn't return.

People had been making rumors about this for several weeks so I wasn’t too surprised when it happened. It was more of an “oh I guess he signed after all, well damn” when I read about it.

Maybe dirtsheets ruined me. That said, I am genuinely surprised that there are people actually excited for punk after his last two company killing world title runs. Not the Chicagoans in the arena since they would’ve always popped for Punk, but just fans in general. The guy is clearly washed and they are excited for that.

None of the problems with Punk were onstage. Yeah, he's old and sloppy, but he could still work just fine. Punk was genuinely great for AEW until all out happened
The only thing you need to be excited about Punk is to have the belief that the WWE environment can keep better control of him than Tony's clownshow did
