who was the most recent US indie wrestler to go on a proper tear like Samoa Joe or Danielson during their indie peaks? Feels like the big indie guys nowadays are mostly the cartwheelers, past-prime deathmatch wrestlers, comedy gimmicks etc. You still have some "wrestler" wrestlers but no one stands out like Joe. There really aren't any indie darlings anymore.

Probably Kevin Owens or Sami Zayn. The problem is both WWE and AEW scoop up the indie darlings before they're really developed. It used to be you figured your shit out for 5 years on the indies then got to WWE or TNA but now they're putting them on Dynamite to have flip fests or NXT to have shitty botch filled matches.
