AEW specifically? AEW's target audience is the Hilary Clinton voter. The end.
NJPW? It's Japanese wrestling catering to the Japanese audience with a Japanese culture and Japanese mindset. Doesn't go over that well in America or internationally.
Other promotions? They're trying too hard to be hardcore and bloody and do stupid moves, so nobody wants to see it.
It should be noted that Big Dimes Billy Corgan had a golden goose with the initial run of NWA Powerrr episodes, featuring 80s studio wrestling with serious angles and serious promos from serious people, as well as some goofy guys.

Dave Legana threw a fit over a politically incorrect joke Jim Cornette made. Cornette quit, the fans of NWA Powerrr discerned that the show was just another shitty lefty wokefest waiting to happen, and left before it got that bad.
But it never got that bad because covid measures destroyed the whole show.
