I didn't watch it live and only caught up a year later on youtube, without any of the hype, without the anticipation, without any build.
Steve Austin looked and moved like an old man who hasn't done this job in 20 years and physically couldn't do it if he tried.
It all looked slow and overtly safe. They had to go out to the steps and the concrete for anything to look impactful and yes the crowd reacted to everything, but I can't help but wonder if that's because it's Stone Old Steve Austin looking, well, frail.
That was my impression watching the match a year after it happened, as a Stone Cold mark.
It wasn't good.
Now Austin only had 3 months to prepare, maybe that's part of it. Maybe he needs a hell of a lot more time to get ready, and maybe work some dark matches with trusted people who can keep their mouth shut, somewhere nobody can see them.
