Can we stop pretending Chris Jericho was ever good?

Chris Jericho is the biggest charlatan in wrestling history. A con artist who tricked gullible masses into believing he was anything more than a milquetoast opening act.

He is an incredibly sub-par wrestler who’s only matches that can be considered good were total carry jobs by far superior workers.

He’s a dreadful promo with no subtlety, nuance, or heart. He just regurgitates the same tired lines over and over in his cringeworthy rockstar voice because he’s the definition of a one trick pony.

He was never a draw. Nobody ever paid for a ticket to see Chris Jericho. If he was on the card, they were almost certainly there to see someone else.

He was never over. His theme music and catchphrases were over, not him. If you stripped away his crutches all you would get is a pathetic, crippled mess that you would walk past on the street. And these catchphrases weren’t even good. They were generic dudebro shock jock ramblings mixed with a healthy dose of misogynist slut-shaming.

He’s always had a terrible look, resembling a Costco cashier with laughable aspirations of being a rock singer as he scans eggs. Compared to his contemporaries in his “prime” like The Rock and Triple H, he looked like a joke.

Ask yourself: do you REALLY like Jericho, or are you simply trying to convince yourself he’s good because he made you giggle as a child. When you strip away his flimsy gimmicks he is truly a nondescript non entity.

In ring: he’s no Misawa.
On the mic: he’s no Punk.
Star power: he’s no Hogan.
Look wise: he’s no Cena.

The only thing Chris Jericho is the GOAT at is leeching off better talent.

Break the walls down and you find there’s nothing on the other side.

He was always sloppy in the ring and never had as many classics as his contemporaries like Eddie, Michaels, Benoit, Angle, even HHH imo. He was still exciting though and could be guaranteed to at least deliver a good match.

His promos were good and he did have more variety than just catchphrases. But eventually in late WWE/when he went to AEW it was all he did.

He was over in every company he's been in, but he's never been a big crossover star. I feel 6 or 7 out of 10 is appropriate for star power.

He's never had a super impressive look but never many bad ones outside of 2019-2021.

These debates only happen because people choose poor words. There is absolutely no way that Jericho is the best wrestler of all time in or out of the ring. These quotes are people praising his resilience and longevity, but absolutely no'e of them want to be in his spot.

I think Jericho could have been bigger with a different gimmick and different hair, but hes done well. He's solid enough, he's competent in the ring, and he's safe. He's like Punk where his character is boring, but unlike Punk, he's not demanding your attention constantly and then letting you down when you expect to see something fresh.

Jericho needed one more gimmick imo.

Jericho is Booker T, Steiner, Nash, RVD, DDP level, and that's fine they're all great wrestlers. I'm a fan of Jericho. Booker and Steiner are slightly ahead of Jericho though because they were actually able to have serious feuds and look like legit tough guys, and they were also entertaining on the mic

Why would Jericho be top 10? Because he wrestled for 30 years doing the same comedy gimmick and wrestled in a bunch of different places? He has never had a legendary run anywhere. He's just been "pretty good" the whole time, and that's because he lacks certain attributes

Your first sentence is entirely wrong so I won't bother reading the rest of your post. WWE fans liked him as an upper midcarder but they lost even more interest in him when he became Jeridad. Go back and listen to his reactions, they were great but not comparable to the actual GOATs like Austin and The Rock.

His debut was the only time he got a GOAT pop but it was a one time thing, a long time ago.

His reactions cooled down after the AE when he became Jeridad so he wasn't considered the GOAT for decades like OP was saying but I can see why some people might think he was the GOAT during the AE (he wasn't)

Royal Rumble is an easy way to get big reactions too so that reaction wasn't the norm for him, but even so i've heard better than that.

His work in AEW has been a disgrace. A million dimeless factions, trademarks, and catchphrases. His sloppiest and most unprofessional work, stuff like blading and calling spots directly into the camera. Aside from just being old and too conceited to step out of the spotlight.

Nothing to do with Jericho. Or Hardy, Sting, Danielson. AEW just makes everyone into the worst possible version of themselves.

I grew up watching the the Ruthless Aggression era / PG Era as a casual zoomer, and didn't get the attitude era until later. So take this opinion from a outsider who was the quintessential normalfag. At the time nobody knew any old wrestler beyond Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Undertaker. When i first played Day of Reckoning, i thought Austin was a crippled guy, Rock was a huge movie star by then so i didn't know he was a wrestler either and Shawn was a gay stripper. I had no idea who guys like Triple H, Ric Flair, Chris Jericho were. By the late 00s, the biggest guy was hands down The Undertaker, folllowed by Jeff Hardy, Batista, Rey Mysterio, everyone really fucking hated Edge. Smackdown was the shit everyone liked here with Raw not really watched much. In 2007 i remember Shawn returning, i had no idea who he was or why he was important. I didn't know who Triple H was, nor did i know Chris Jericho at all though my friends at the time did. At the time all i wanted basically was Jeff Hardy to win the belt and kick Orton's ass, i imagine most people thought the same. I tuned out around 2008 after the Edge Undertaker feud ended, and we picked it back up in 2009 for the Jeff Hardy CM Punk feud, then people really started caring here until Rock and Cena drew us back into the product.
