>>12580411>part of the AEW product is that all previous storylines and timelines exist in AEW. they don’t delete ppl’s history. they address it and try to build on itThanks for explaining TV to me.
You realise this is deeply inaccessible to most people? I watched Chikara, I know Claudio & Kingston's history. I hated their AEW feud because it was ENTIRELY reliant on people remembering that and cutesy wink nudge allusions and 'memberberries for a fucking wrestling school comedy fed that drew 300 people on a good day.
AEW don't create or build on shit. They don't even explain shit. Excalibur just sits there jerking off into his own mask like he expects everyone to know it all already or DO THE RESEARCH GOOGLE IT. People have better shit to do than dig to find 16 year old footage from a niche indy to understand the context for a feud.
WWE gets shat on for spoonfeeding and treating their audience like retards but at least it's accessible. They onboard people who haven't seen every second of the show, or every second of a different company's show from 20 fucking years ago, they run recaps and regular video packages so that people can be caught up quickly as to what's going on.
AEW relies entirely on references, nostalgia, hipster nostalgia, and people watching religiously every single week. Edge/Christian should be a match of "Two guys who are still friends but have gone different paths the last few years but wanna have a faceoff as friends", at a PPV, and if you build it like that THEN have the actual heat occur with Christian cheating or whatever, you can justify a feud. Going straight in with "GO FUCK YOURSELF JAY RESO" from cold acting like everyone will believe these guys suddenly hate each other, while ALSO making the entire build around "these guys are best friends, they've been best friends for 25 years, remember WWE? Remember? They were best friends in WWE! Do you remember that, they're best friends! From WWE!" is schizophrenic and dimeless.
