The NBA introduced their shot clock almost 75 years ago, but MLB had to wait until most of the old timer “purists” were dead before doing so, same with universal DH. There’s also financial incentive to do this, by keeping games shorter so that other games get on TV sooner, more advertising revenue from a captive audience, etc. I remember watching NHL playoff games in the late 90’s and early 00’s where some games went into triple or quadruple OT, it was ridiculous.
