The start of AEW had all of the EVPs not want titles, because of the optics but they shot themselves in the foot a bit. Cody went all in with it and booked himself out of title contention forever. Maybe they could just do some wrestling bullshit to renege the stip but Cody really hurt himself with that move.

It was more personal for Cody then the others because his daddeh was always accused of booking himself to be the champ. Cody was very mindful of that and felt he had to overcompensate twice as hard as the others

But Dusty was like the Mick Foley of the NWA days, extremely over but his 3 World title reigns were short as fuck. I think his longest was like 80 days while the other two were like a combined month.

Dusty booked himself to win a ton of mid-card titles, but yeah his world title runs were short as fuck. Looked it up 5 days, 14 days and 88 days. Flair was by far the bigger self-mark. It's THE reason Flair left NWA/WCW for WWE in the early 90s because they wanted to move him down the card after almost a decade on top.

Anon any time Dusty put that US Title on himself he got hell for it. That and giving preferential booking to those who were personally close to him. It's one of the defining criticisms of his time as a booker. Which tells you why not only did none of the elite win a title early on, but they also were doing nonstop jobs. To the point where the biggest criticism ended up being that they never won
