Was Big Show ever a main eventer? I feel like the WWE didn't know what to do with him for most of his time at the company.

He probably had the most shit booking of anyone from that era, and still overcame it. They turned him heel/face/heel/face over and over. It became hard to know month by month what he was.

Sure there were plenty of times that he was made to look like a complete doofus but he held the championship gold in the big leagues when they mattered

In WCW he was, everyone was pretty shocked by how Vince used him, jobbing him to Austin immediately instead of building him up. But he became a novelty gimmick.
I think Vince knew giants can't be proper main eventers now, Andre worked because he travelled everywhere, you can't just have a huge guy beating everyone.
