If a wrestler can stand up to the boss then he also has the balls to go to the competition so they would end up getting a push from Vince instead. If that wrestler is brave enough to stand up to the boss then he probably has talent that Vince has overlooked because wrestlers with talent are generally the cockiest.
That's not a thing now because WWE has no compitition to worry about and the current roster is in a healthy state with or without cocky wrestlers.

Usually there needs to be dismissal with cause like they did with Punk. It’s the same reason why WWE leaves people in catering until their contracts run out. It’s less of a headache than either trying to terminate their contract without paying them out, or just paying their contract out and receiving no value in return. There is no benefit to just firing them, because you’re paying one way or the other.
