New science proving old science incorrect is how we progress anon. I've not kept up with any news so I don't know if what you've said is true or just some prelim results, but when I was doing my undergrad one of my professors always said that the true goal of all scientists should be to have someone prove something that makes your work incorrect. Because when that's happened you know for a fact that the field has progressed.
