I think Cornette was asked this recently about his and the Midnight's segments in mags and similar publications.

WWE did a pretty big crossover with a short-lived Japanese promotion called SWS. I haven't had the chance to watch the matches yet, but I've heard that the pop (and lack of pop) for the foreign wrestlers is really interesting. Big in US does not necessarily mean big in Japan (and vice-versa). I believe that Hulk was known in Japan though, just not as over as he was in the West.

Masa Saito was cheating and using the ropes to his advantage, so Inoki stopped the match and told the Young Lions to remove the ropes. The crowd went apeshit watching them remove them. The match turned into blood and spit, both beating the living shit out of each other while locked in handcuffs together. The ending is brutal.

This gonna be a bit long but this entire Inoki vs Masa feud in 1987 that spanned a number of matches was supposed to be with Choshu, but Choshu was still bind by that shitty AJPW contract so he couldn't enter an NJPW ring, let alone wrestle there yet. Inoki knowing that, he sent a letter to Masa, Choshu's mentor, who was still in prison in the US, and asked him to do a feud with him after his release in preparation for Choshu's return. Masa said he accepted it and was training in prison for his return. In that year, Choshu was already mentally done from wrestling in AJPW and was asking for his release but they didn't accept it, so he kept giving excuses to them so he wouldn't wrestle there anymore. In the April match, he told them that he had a fever and diarrhea, but he was attending the Inoki vs Masa match. Choshu there was building up a feud with Inoki and Fujinami, which then evolved into the old generation (Inoki and Masa) vs the new generation (Choshu, Fujinami and Maeda), but even that didn't last long, which is another story. Everyone at that time knew Choshu is coming back to NJPW soon, NJPW, the wrestling fans, and AJPW themselves. Choshu returned to NJPW in June Babetty sent legal letters threatening Choshu, NJPW and TV Asahi from doing wrestling matches. Choshu did return in June, but his match couldn't be aired due to the legal issues with AJPW, and it wasn't until October that Choshu's matches began to be broadcast on TV Asahi. Overall, that year and the following years after it were extremely hot for NJPW with both Choshu's and UWF's wrestlers return to NJPW.

He and Ken Patera allegedly threw a boulder through the window of McDonald's that was closed (although it appeared to be open). Patera later stated that the rock was thrown by a local teenager. The McDonald's staff gave the police a description of two wrestlers. The police kicked their door in, and Saito tried to fight them off in self defense.

It was an internal issue between New Japan Pro-Wrestling's president Inoki and New Japan Pro-Wrestling Entertainment's president Otsuka. Both were supposed to be sister companies, but Inoki grew distrustful of Otsuki because Otsuki said his company is a pure entertainment company and wanted to work with all wrestling feds, and actually planned to accept any offers from any wrestling fed. At that time, TV was big in Japan, especially variety shows, so entertainment was a big factor to promote wrestling. AJPW, which was the secondary promotion to NJPW, and genuinely struggling, approached Otsuka for help, and Otsuka accepted. Inoki saw that as a betrayal to their relationship and announced that NJPW terminated Otsuka's company's contract with them. Otsuka in retaliation announced that he's severing his ties with NJPW and persuaded Choshu and his stable the Ishin Gundan to leave. Choshu already had his own wrestling agency called Japan Pro-Wrestling, and Otsuka made arrangement for them to form a business alliance with AJPW, which saw Choshu wrestle in AJPW. But that didn't last as Choshu grew dissatisfied with Baba and AJPW and returned with his Ishin Gundan to NJPW in 1987. Of course, there are many others who left during the same year or around it like the UWF guys, Super Strong Machine and Tiger Mask, but those all have different backstories, not sure if you're interested in them.

He cucked us out of legendary matches, mainly him vs Inoki, Inoki vs Tsuruta and Fujinami vs Tsuruta, because he was always self-conscious about Inoki. But I guess he had the right. Inoki was very charismatic, he can easily overshadows others. When they teamed up in the All Star Dream Card in 79, after the match, Inoki grabbed the mic and cut a promo which made the crowd lose their shit. Baba didn't like it and people backstage reported that he was angry over what Inoki did.

Watching Prime Time Wrestling from June 2nd, 1986 right now and, other than the Mr. Fuji and Don Muraco Miami Vice parody from a couple of months earlier, this is the first real sports entertainment WWF thing I have found. You can really see even this early on how much Vince wants to be making television entertainment instead of presenting wrestling as a sport.

This segment is a parody of the old game show Love Connection and features Vince as the host with Jimmy Hart, Bret Hart, and Jim the Anvil Neidhart as the contestants. Vince buries the fuck out of them as he makes the introductions and Jimmy and Jim take it with a grain of salt laughing and playing along. Bret is just sitting there seething over the fact his boss is not taking him seriously. Vince pretty much low key buries Bret as being an incredibly boring and self-centered person during the introduction. The audience, made up of wrestlers, is chuckling as Vince introduced Jimmy, but when he started in on Bret they lost it. I have been working my way through the WWE library and from the moment Bret appears he is already exactly the same as the Bret we all know today. If someone first saw him back in 1984 they might think it is him doing a bit as part of his gimmick but no, this is just who he is. Buy the license. It is cheap, works really well, and if you are a preservationist it is a godsend.

Other than that you can use FFMPEG, but you will need a lot of dependencies, you will have to write your own script, and it will be a huge pain in the ass.

I went to an event in Phoenix 1988 which was well after WM3 and I remember there was a chick 'sitting' (more like standing) next to us and she said she was at the Saturday Night Main event just before WM3 where Andre came out and slammed Hogan.I used to tell that story as mine own because it would be plausible that I could have been there because I was already going to events for a couple years but I just didn't go to that one.
