Larian got a sweetheart deal from WotC for this game. A great budget, creative freedom, years and years of development time, and no publisher overhead forcing them to monetize every aspect of the game.
Other studios just don't get that, not all of it. Except for maybe Bethesda, but they haven't produced anything beyond a "turn your brain off" game since Morrowind.
Like, look at Diablo 4 for example. Anyone expecting a great game from that team is literally retarded, because as competent as they were they had Blizzard-Activision forcing them to monetize the game--and in order to do that, you have to literally warp game design around it. And as an aside, this is why games that only have cosmetic mtx are also pure cancer.
If there's anything good to come out of BG3, besides the game itself, it's hopefully a wakeup call to other studios.
