>>12639256Bret Hart was entering just as WCW was doing its biggest match ever in Hogan/Sting. The idea of involving Bret in that match at all was dumb right out of the gate. He should've debuted that night in an interview or something.
Then, the next night on Nitro, Sting and Bret should've formed a team against the nWo as they split up. That way, Bret gets to be in the main event scene but isn't in the world title picture right away. Maybe spend the next year building him up along with Goldberg so you have a great War Games team of Sting/Bret/Goldberg/Lex (or DDP) vs the nWo to blow off the feud entirely as the nWo split ironically plays out like the 1996 war games and Hall or Nash walks out on the match like Sting did the last time.
Starrcade '98 could be Sting vs Bret or Sting vs Goldberg or Bret vs Goldberg while the nWo sorts its shit out on the undercard.
But no, Hogan has to get the belt back and they have to stupidly have Goldberg blow through all of his opponents in the fall because they didn't care.
