There's a bigger picture here. WWE accepts HHH as their leader but not Nick Khan. Khan, despite meaning King in Turkic languages, is seen as the sleazy Hollywood guy who works other Hollywood people but not as the co-leader he is. CM Punk is a Nick Khan guy and in such, WWE is burying him at every chance they get. The second he stops drawing them money, it's right under the bus he goes.

This isn't a speculation, it's a prophecy.

Your first red flags should've been when you saw that Hausman and Ibou/BackupHangman were running with the story. Those guys are Punks mouthpieces. However, with that said, I don't doubt WWE would try to get some meetings with WBD. It'd be stupid to not check off all your possible options. Whether they secure a deal or not it another story.

WBD and WWE are definitely having meetings, but they're normal negotiations for Raw rights and have nothing to do with Punk. However, WWE and Punk are 100% spreading this story so that they can make it look even worse for AEW that they lost Punk. "AEW lost Punk and now he's getting us a BIG deal with AEW's own TV partner! How is this a problem for WWE again? If Punk helped them get the TNT deal, great. If not, oh well, he's just a talent, it'd be unheard of to hear one talent is the reason for a huge TV rights deal. Anyone can appreciate this take including CM Punk.

I think the rumor WBD is interested because of Punk was planted by WBD themselves as a way of telling Tony's camp they're none too pleased with the way things were handled with CM Punk. But that's all. It's just a message.

Downplay it, it's a big nothing burger, but it's pretty fun to make those AEW worms squirm.
