People like to pin WCW's downturn solely on booking decisions because that's their bubble, but there is plenty of dumb TV company shit like having to add Thunder and making WCW pay for it that contributed to the company going to shit financially. The only time WCW as a Turner owned wrestling company was ever profitable was when Bischoff was running it to begin with.

Pretty sure a bunch of people have said it. Dutch Mantell, Arn Anderson, JR, Don Callis, etc. have all stated that AEW stars don't really com to ask for advice or suggestions or any kind of information that the vets have that could help their careers.

Bischoff is the worst when it comes to self-interested revisionist history (even moreso than Russo).

There are very clear pivot points in WCW's success creatively that massively fucked their business up. Not saying they would've beaten Vince in the end, but Bischoff is responsible for both the success and failure of WCW more than anyone.

Having them do two shows on the same budget they were doing one on was like a death sentence in itself. No matter how WCW was floundering creatively, if Ted was still running shit and he wanted to keep throwing money and TV time at it to stick it to McMahon, then it would have continued.

I think a lot of WCW's financial failure is subsidiary politics like the Buell motorcycle company. In the latter's case one of the infamous things that made the company look unprofitable was Harley Davidson forcing them to buy engines from them at super high prices so it would look like HD was doing better financially, and I think with WCW they both looked like they were making a lot more money when Ted was willing to put a lot of their expenses (like the Hulkster) on the Turner Corporation's books and then suddenly looked like they were losing a shitload of money when new people started forcing expenses onto the wrestling company they wanted to get rid of, when the reality was probably always somewhere in the middle.

Anon, WCW ran off it's paying audience. They had massive operating costs with no money from ppv or live events covering it anymore. That's why they lost a gargantuan amount of money in a short period of time.
