Came about because the Catholic Church is made of humans and humans more often than not exist in a sinful and broken way causing many people to have terrible experiences with Church members who were not being good Christians.
Baptists were inspired by St. John the Baptist but started during colonialism so a lot of their foundational stuff is twice removed from the Catholic base of christianity.
